Music has a way of transporting us beyond the ordinary, and few understand this better than emerging electronic music producer MOKSHA. Speaking about his self-titled debut album, released February 12, 2025, the Brazilian-American artist shares candid insights about his musical evolution and the creative vision driving his unique sound.
Let’s start at the beginning – how did you get into making music?
I actually stumbled into it when I moved to Denver back in 2021. The scene there is incredible – people call it the ‘Bass Capital.’ I’m in NH now, but those years in Denver really taught me so much. It’s taken time to find my sound, but I finally felt ready to share this album.
For someone who’s never heard your music before, how would you describe it?
Well, there’s definitely a dubstep foundation, but I try to blend in other elements too – some Drum n Bass, Riddim, Glitch Bass, Deep House. Each track has its own personality, I guess. Some are more energetic, others are quieter, more atmospheric. I’m still experimenting with different styles.
Tell us more about who you are and what drives your music…
I’m just trying to create something meaningful in the bass music space. Still learning every day, really. I grew up playing piano in the States, and later spent some time mastering it in Brazil. That classical background definitely influences how I approach electronic music. Everything shifted when I discovered Doctor P in 2012 – that was my first real introduction to dubstep. Been fascinated by it ever since.
What’s your hope for listeners when they experience your music?
I just want to create something that maybe takes people somewhere different for a moment. Music has this amazing ability to transport you, you know? If I can contribute even a small piece to that experience, that would mean everything.
Dream collaboration – who would it be with?
Charlesthefirst (RIP)… his work was so inspiring. The way he approached music was just incredible.
