Who knew there were these American talents out in Asia the entire time? Julian Quander’s new song called “Never Let the Love Stop” featuring Champagne Duane cranks hard. They’re changing the industry with this one. He’s not your traditional starving artist singing in your local bars on a corner in a big city in the United States.
He’s literally out in China doing his thing in a major way.
The song itself speaks volumes. The elementary school yard keyboard riffs bring back a keen memory relating to the old school days. Julian’s vocal range from low to high evens out the balance of the song, and Champagne Duane’s charismatic flow in his verse is the cherry on top.
Julian is the first African American to start his own record label in China, and he’s been thriving tremendously. The D.M.V (DC, Maryland, Virginia) native could be the spark that this industry needs to expand music and thrive worldwide.
Here’s how the two-artist linked up to make this club banger. Julian Quander met Champagne Duane in Xiamen, China, in 2019. In a recent interview, Julian stated, “I threw a big beach party in Xiamen, China, in 2019, and Duane had just arrived in China off of a big shoe design deal at Anta Sports, and he came to the party and was introduced to me. In Xiamen, China, it’s nearly no African Americans, so we instantly connected, and once he told me he was a rap artist, I knew we would have to make some music together”.
Let’s talk about the music video to “Never Let the Love Stop.” The MV takes us into a different universe known as the “Asiaverse.” Can you believe Julian wrote the script and directed the whole thing himself? It’s almost like he’s the “V” in versatility. In a recent interview, we asked Julian what made him want to direct this video. “I love the whole process from start to finish. I’m quite picky about my music video topics. I want to create unique stories to go along with my music. On the other hand, it is tiring, but it’s what I enjoy and where I feel most comfortable.”
We also asked Julian what it’s like being an independent music artist so far from home.
“I can be stressful at times. My Chinese isn’t the greatest in the world, but I am fluent. I would say the biggest challenge is staying focused. That’s why I like my team so much because they keep me focused.” We then asked him who his music is dedicated to, and he responded, “My music is for that kid with a big dream, that person with a broken heart, or that person who wants to stay positive and happy. I believe my purpose is to uplift others with my music because, at the end of the day, it’s about y’all.”
All in all, it’s looking like the far east is starting to become a great place for innovation and creativity.
