The 2nd album of Tefi Valenzuela’s forthcoming EP, Cinco Cumbias, is “Cumbia de Despedida,” by Tefi Valenzuela, consisting of songs about her life experiences is still rocking us to the core. This song was written by Tefi from Medellin, Colombia, with a group of Mexican, Colombian, and Venezuelan writers and composers, of which the melody and lyrics are for the vocalist’s true-life narrative. This song is her way of telling people how to quit a relationship with anyone who is addicted to alcohol. The primary goal is to educate the public about alcohol abuse, encouraging young people to think carefully before they become victims.

“When I wrote this song, I felt a therapeutic release. I was in agony after breaking up with someone who had caused me a lot of pain because, regardless of my best efforts to mend it, my ex-boyfriend’s alcoholism drove me to the state where I realized that I had to let him go for my good. I recalled not just my narrative but also the stories of my friends who were once in relationships with men that had severe alcohol problems. It’s a condition that many people refuse to accept, one that gradually ruins them. They also drag the suffering of everyone who surrounds them,” says the vocalist, Tefi Valenzuela, referring to the inspiration for her song.

“I think that all addictions are negative and destructive, however since alcohol is regarded as legal and seen as acceptable by people, many do not see the fine line between having a couple of drinks now and then to constantly drinking in excess, putting them in a state where their peers mock them. I believe that alcohol is the motor for doing things people may come to regret later, as they are not conscious of what they’re doing and don’t even recall it the following day,” she stated.

That is the reason why this song speaks of isolation, despair, and a refusal to believe in promises for your good. “This song is for every woman who has endured that torment, and I would not wish it on my worst enemy.” Tefi Valenzuela is already making waves with her unique style of cumbia. Her thoughtful music often tackles tough subjects like addiction, abuse, and heartbreak. But beneath the heavy topics, there’s always an underlying message of hope. Valenzuela’s latest single, “Cumbia de Despedida,” is a perfect example of this.

People, especially women, can relate to the song because it’s about moving on from a toxic relationship. Many women have and are still in emotionally abusive relationships. But that doesn’t mean they should give up on love. The cumbia beat helps to lift the spirits and gives the listener a sense of determination. This is a song for anyone who has ever been in a dark place and needed a little light to help them find their way out. It’s also a reminder that even when it feels like the world is against you, there’s always hope for a better tomorrow.
